“Horizontal Progressions”, Sol LeWitt

The cube has always been the basis for Sol LeWitt’s work. What enjoyed about this exhibit and what can not experience from these pictures, are the changing positive and negative spaces in these pieces as you walk around them. They are very cool and I encourage you to get out and take a look for yourself.

Pace Gallery, 508 West 25th Street

January 24th - February 22nd

On a side note:

Currently MassMoca has a collection of Sol LeWitt’s wall works done by artisans with specific instructions written by LeWitt. The collection will be up until 2033.

David LaChapelle, Land Scape

If you don’t know David LaChapelle, he usually does celebrity portraits in pre-setup scenes. Here’s a link: http://www.lachapellestudio.com/portraits/

But here he’s doing these manufactured landscapes focusing on oil refineries and gas stations. If you look closely the scenes are made from hair curlers, straws, tin cans and pie tins. Its pretty crazy and not to be missed in person. Definitely worth the trip.

BroLab Dead Lift Show at Freight + Volume

BroLab is a collective of NYC based artists Ryan Roa, Jonathan Brand, Adam Brent, Travis LeRoy Southworth, and Rahul Alexander.  Dead Lift refers to a situation that requires all one’s strength or ingenuity, the lifting of weight without momentum. BroLab starts a project by questioning how a space can be activated. What will create a conversation, what will solve a problem, what will be useful? They say, “Our projects come from a combination of opportunity and risk.”

On view at Freight + Volume now thru February 8th, 530 West 24th
