David Salle
New Paintings
Skarstedt Gallery
Pop art from one of the original creators. Feels a little sloppy and rushed, maybe give it up. Not feeling the energy and love in these pieces. Check out the morbidity through June 27, 2015.
John Wesley
1961 to 1966
Fredericks & Freiser Gallery
Interesting POP art from the 1960′s that hasn’t been seen in a long time. Curious works indeed. Check it out through June 13, 2015.
Jerk Face
Cartoon Villain
Bottleneck Gallery (UTB)
60 Broadway, Brooklyn
Great show of “Villains” in the trademark, Jerk Face style. This is his first solo show and the paintings look amazing. Most all are in a square format and really bring a consistent pop aesthetic to the work. First show, check it out.
John Stezaker
New Silkscreens and the Movie “Blind”
Petzel Gallery NYC
John is a master of assemblage with movie stills from the 50’s and 60’s. He’s been at it for 30 years and the creative output is amazing. These new silkscreens are a revisit to work created in the late 70’s. Powerful and hypnotic film nior silhouettes captivate the mind. The movie blind is shot from existing film stills, each different and run at a mesmerizing pace of 24 per second. My ears started ringing and definitely felt uneasy watching the onslaught of old movie images into my brain. Exhausting. Check it out.
