large show opening Thursday night at David Zwirner Gallery on 19th street. The show is very much a synthesis of our times and should make for interesting conversations about good and evil and right and wrong. Check it out.

What an interesting artist. A nice wide ranging show of photographs, film and interesting sculptures. Some Cindy Sherman type work as well as a table reading of his x-rated film Pink Flamingos table read by children in wigs. It’s historical if you remember the source material. Erwin gave a talk about his photography which was very enlightening. He was very animated and very serious about the work, the process and what goes into the creation of each photograph. The title of the show is called “Waiting” which refers to the two extremes of his process. The longest is a still life which can take forever and the shortest being a blink which happens, as they say, in a blink. The picture above is him dealing with his own mortality and the depiction of his father’s end of life. To deal with the subject he recreated his father’s life as himself. He was very choked -up about the subject, but going through the process enabled him to deal with his own mortality. I believe there was a couple in the crowd who were subjects of one of his photographs. Very enlightening talk. Check out the show thorough February 28, 2015

2 Good shows opening tonight—Claire Oliver has some really intriguing imagery that looks kind of diorama-y by the artist Norbert Brunner. Looks like some super cool visual art. Definitely check it out. Yancey Richardson Gallery has a show entitled Genesis by the photographer Sebastiao Salgado. Poignant work that showcases his eight-year project photographing the natural world in its pristine, untouched state. Check it out!
Outsider Art Ready for your Chill Thursday Night—Jonathan Levine has a solo show by Doze Green on 23rd in Chelsea which will be fun and mobbed. Cool fantastical creatures lurk beneath the surface of his paintings. Joshua Liner Gallery has a group show of artists who are paired with an artist who inspires them. Definitely a fun night. Bundle-up and check it out.
