Diana Thater explores the dung beetle, the species uses the Milky Way to orientate itself at night, currently the only insect known to do so. Should be worth checking out.
Outsider Art Ready for your Chill Thursday Night—Jonathan Levine has a solo show by Doze Green on 23rd in Chelsea which will be fun and mobbed. Cool fantastical creatures lurk beneath the surface of his paintings. Joshua Liner Gallery has a group show of artists who are paired with an artist who inspires them. Definitely a fun night. Bundle-up and check it out.

Great show by this intensely realistic painter. The images are a real look into the souls of the subjects, but something is off and completely unsettling. As if something is too good to be true. Many paintings reveal the dark side of this saccharin beauty. Most of the paintings are sold, but you can still check it out in person.

Pictured above is John “Crash” Matos and Monica Welsh at the gallery opening for Broken English. Amazing show with very tight canvasses cropped to contain the frenetic, yet very pop-y sensibilities of the canvases. Bright colors and a very cool 80’s vibe that feels timeless. These would be great pieces to own. Be sure to check out the Museum of New York City’s show entitled City as Canvas. It features Crash’s work as well as a huge trove of seminal early NYC graffiti from the collection of Martin Wong. Check it out.
