Great show this year, not a lot of repeated artists or artwork. Seeing new stuff everywhere. The quality is insane and the ideas are genius. I think this is one of the best years at the armory. It doesn’t seem like a lot of stuff is selling, but hard to tell. This is the best of the best.

Jack Shainman Gallery
Cool show of carved busts that are autobiographical and curious in their squatness. In the back room the artist is surrounded by her influencers, busts of family and people who inspire her. Very personal show and a very unique voice. Check it out through March 12, 2016

Raymond was there in person signing zones and skateboards and other ephemera for fans. He looked so sweaty and intense as if just being there was all he could muster through force of will. His exquisite corpse work with Marcel is very personal, intimate, and of a zine quality, It really refused the wall, which is pretty cool. The paper looked like it wanted to leave the wall and crawl home into the dank, dark quiet of a basement apartment. Check this out before it blows away…

Large Scale photographic works that are painstakingly produced, set-up, cast, art directed, and photographed, just like a high production movie, only for art. While on the surface they seem real and about a moment or feeling you interpret, the scale makes them feel and seem permanent as if you can’t stop what is/was happening, it just is. Great Show, Giant to see.
New Year, New Openings! — Time to warm up with some new art and new art openings. Great group show by guest curator Noah Becker at Berry Campbell. Across the street Penelope Umbrico (an artist best known for appropriating images found on the Internet) has a cool show at Bruce Silverstein featuring cool photos of Grand Central and over a million shots of the moon from flickr that she made screen shots from. Internetistas will be there. Check it out!

Shag-a-riffic—We skipped spring and went straight to summer, SMH. Anyway there will be a fantastic shagarific show at Jonathan Levine Gallery featuring the hep cat feel of the late 1960’s painting and illustration. I’m sure everyone will be in a good mood/vibe.
