Amazing show of Mark Ryden’s latest work. Amazing amount of detail to his process from painting on a lift with rollers to manufacturing the frames overseas to exacting specifications. There is no other world like his. Even the Fan Mom and Daughter dressed up and brought their favorite Mark Ryden dolls. It’s a macabre world where innocence and the gruesome comingal in an ethereal world. Check it out through January 23, 2016.
New Year, New Openings! — Time to warm up with some new art and new art openings. Great group show by guest curator Noah Becker at Berry Campbell. Across the street Penelope Umbrico (an artist best known for appropriating images found on the Internet) has a cool show at Bruce Silverstein featuring cool photos of Grand Central and over a million shots of the moon from flickr that she made screen shots from. Internetistas will be there. Check it out!
Invader Takes NYC
It’s been a great November spotting Invader graffiti all over NYC. Lots of pizza eating Invaders and food orientated posts. Looks like French invader gets the late night hungries while he’s thinking up his next tile-fitti.
Parlor Gallery in Asbury Park, NJ
The show is entitled “Esoterica” featuring the work of 4 artists: Andrea Joyce, Heimer, Dima Drjuchin, Kristen Liu and Gary Mellon. Great gallery featuring all kinds of outsider art that is very much in the “Juxtapose” vein. Nice work!
Sculpture and S.M.U.T.—Things are heating up again and Thursday is developing into a great line-up of shows from Joshua Liner to Jonathan Levine and every gallery in between. Kris Kuksi’s impossible fantastical and Gothic sculptures will be on display at Joshua Liner on 28th as well as Naturel’s artistic interpretation of nudie mags in a show entitled S.M.U.T. Happy Valentines Day Weekend!— Julie Saul Gallery has the first state side exhibition of the experimental video and still artist Adam Magyar—definitely worth checking out. Danziger Gallery has the original
photographer that was appropriated by Richard Prince. Jim Krantz’s
photographs are Iconic representations of the west and are easily
recognizable. The architect Ron Arad’s “Pressed Flower” sculptures, made up of compressed Fiat 500s in varying colors mounted on the gallery’s walls should be pretty cool to see (what can’t this guy do?). Check it out!

Very peculiar piece from a photo gallery. This sculptural piece is a readymade with 7 sinks synchronized to play with sound. The table top is a photograph (that’s where the photo gallery part comes in play) of marble that will deteriorate over time. The sculpture takes up almost the entire footprint of the gallery. This is Brian’s forth solo show at Anton Kern Gallery. In this latest show the Los Angeles-based artist presents paintings of closely cropped faces and or just mouths. Isolating and focusing on the lips as a way to alter the context of the face.

Stunning gelatin silver prints taken of the American Museum of Natural History. The slighting is so flat and even, you really lose the sense of reality. Not really sure wether it is real or not. These are very large scale prints and are hung very high so that you are always looking up. Check it out.
