Great show this year, not a lot of repeated artists or artwork. Seeing new stuff everywhere. The quality is insane and the ideas are genius. I think this is one of the best years at the armory. It doesn’t seem like a lot of stuff is selling, but hard to tell. This is the best of the best.
Taryn Simon
PAPERWORK AND THE WILL OF CAPITAL
Gagosian on 24th has an exhibit of the recent works of Taryn Simon, who has reduced the high tension political meetings of dignitaries down to the florist who arranged the bouquet that sat at the meeting. She strips away the context revealing the flowers that were designed for the event. One visual had no flowers, how sad. Also included in the show are flower pressings of the type of flowers presented at these events. Framing is awesome. Check it out through March 26, 2016
Space is the Place—Great show at Joshua Liner Gallery featuring oil on linen by Michael Kagan which showcases man’s moments of triumph over nature’s limits captured through iconic imagery as seen to the left. Also noteworthy is a cool show by Aïda Ruilova at Marlborough Chelsea featuring a 25-foot wide projection of a digitally transferred Super-16mm film, a large-scale inflatable, and a group of cut-paper collages. Cool night, check it out!
Gregory Crewdson @Gagosian — Cathedral of the pines, his latest set of images to be shown took 4 years in the making and 2 years of post-production which makes for an intense image maker. This show was big, loud and crowded, everyone naked and revealing themselves to the dark nature of real life. Open through 3-15-16. Check it out!

Large Scale photographic works that are painstakingly produced, set-up, cast, art directed, and photographed, just like a high production movie, only for art. While on the surface they seem real and about a moment or feeling you interpret, the scale makes them feel and seem permanent as if you can’t stop what is/was happening, it just is. Great Show, Giant to see.

Good fair this year with an assortment of international galleries showcasing many smaller pieces and less “Statement” type pieces of artwork. Mood seemed a little subdued but the art is always intelligent and thought provoking. There were a couple of performance pieces as well as participatory artworks and a maze.
Philip-Lorca diCorcia
East of Eden
Reflecting the down times of the economy post 2008 market crash, Philip-Lorca diCorcia references the biblical book of genesis showcasing a pervasive sense of disillusionment. Photography looks great especially with no annoying glass to interfere with the viewing of the images. I which more photography shows were presented this way.

Best fair of the year! Lots of space and room for the art to breath and the quality of the work was amazing, refreshing and forward looking. If you go to any fair this year, this is the one to check out!
Chelsea Art Walk 2014—5th Annual Gallery Walk happens this Thursday. Most galleries are open from 5-8pm and many artist will have open studios as well. Itís a fun night to explore galleries you havenít visited as well as get a glimpse inside the studios. Last big event before galleries go on their summer sabbatical. artwalkchelsea.com
