Space is the Place—Great show at Joshua Liner Gallery featuring oil on linen by Michael Kagan which showcases man’s moments of triumph over nature’s limits captured through iconic imagery as seen to the left. Also noteworthy is a cool show by Aïda Ruilova at Marlborough Chelsea featuring a 25-foot wide projection of a digitally transferred Super-16mm film, a large-scale inflatable, and a group of cut-paper collages. Cool night, check it out!
Rain Got You Down? See some sculpture!—It’s been raining lately, but there are some great shows on tonight that will brighten your mood. Galerie LeLong has work by Ursula von Rydingsvard. She produces massive sculptures that look like bulbous, withered, inverted tree trunks made out of Cedar. She has outdoor pieces at Storm King that are amazing in their scale. It wíll be nice to see smaller more intimate pieces. Magnan Metz gallery has a room filled installation (love this stuff) that contains an inverted buck, antlers down. Check it out.
Get the Parties Started—Just when you thought the season was over, new life arises. Lots of great gallery shows currently open now (Glenn Brown, Keith Haring, Larry Clark, Tara Donovan, etc.) Hello summer! Great new openings this Thursday. Joshua Liner Gallery has a show by Thomas Campbell who is inspired by Gourds in the Berry McGee style. The show also contains sculpture and works in fabric. Good Party. Check it out.
