Always good to see work by Keith Haring. He was very prolific and when you see a show like this, it’s amazing to see the vibrance of the fluorescent colors in person. Massive canvasess worth checking out through April 18, 2015
Spring Art Shows Roll into Town— If only the snow and the shit weather would roll out! Opening this week and weekend are the Armory, Volta, Scope, Art on Paper, Independent and other ancillary fairs chock full of fresh new work to tempt your eyes and your wallets. For local fun Thursday night check out Skarstedt Gallery and their Keith Haring show as well as The Unix Gallery show featuring paintings by Ellen de Meijer. Early collection for graffiti in NYC that traces the origins of tags with the street numbers the tag writers were from all the way through to the 80’s with full subway car take-overs. Early artists including DAZE, Keith Haring, Lee Quinones, Lady Pink, Kenny Scharf, Futura 2000 and many more. This is an expansive collection of one possessed individual who saw the early value of this burgeoning art movement. He died of AIDs in 1999, but left his collection of graffiti and graffiti “Black Books” to the city of New York to share with everyone. This is a seminal show, Check it out!
Get the Parties Started—Just when you thought the season was over, new life arises. Lots of great gallery shows currently open now (Glenn Brown, Keith Haring, Larry Clark, Tara Donovan, etc.) Hello summer! Great new openings this Thursday. Joshua Liner Gallery has a show by Thomas Campbell who is inspired by Gourds in the Berry McGee style. The show also contains sculpture and works in fabric. Good Party. Check it out.

Paintings and Tarps from the 1980’s
Very graphic paintings in his preeminent style. A great chance to see visuals you probably haven’t seen before. AIDS themed paintings and tarpaulins. It always warms the heart to see his work, but this is a lot more provocative subject matter that ultimately caused his death at 31. Large and powerful. Check it out.
