Jacob has a really nice group show going on right now. A couple of the artists that stood out for me the most were Dean Sameshima and Dani Tull’s pieces.

Dean’s work has an unexpected juxtaposition with childlike connecting the dots revealing a pornagraphic image.

Dani’s piece has this fun combination of the graphic patterned background, pop art lips and fangs parted to reveal an almost cheesy 70′s sunset image. Plus I love the name of this one “Feeder (houndstooth)”.

Jonathan Levine Gallery

Great to see an all female show with such strong artist’s. The show features from top to bottom Sandra Chevrier, Mimi Scholz and Handiedan. Both Scholz and Handiedan work heavily in Photoshop to get the images just right, Sandra paints the surface and sometimes incorporates real action cartoons in her works. Cool show through July 25, 2015. Check it out.

Philip Johnson Glass House

New Canaan, CT

So exciting to finally see the glass house in person. We went on an extended visit and saw the glass house, the pavilion, pool, art museum. (Sulpture center was under reconstruction) Ladder/sculpture, Library, Ghost House and Orientation Center (very dis-orientating by the way).

Great visit and well worth the wait of a weekend tour (Tours are only not available in winter, even though Philip thought that was the most amazing time of year). All the buildings were designed to interact with each other. The minimalisticness of the place is amazing, especially for something built in the 1950′s.

It’s always so interesting when artists dive into other reals than what you know them for. Kim Gordon from Sonic youth has a new show up at 303 Gallery, which looks very ephemeral and light and floaty, seemingly lacking any there-ness, but when you look at the crumpled up paintings on the floor, they really have a lot of graphic power and strength. These is a very interesting way of taking painting into a sculptural realm, I don’t hear the music but my eyes are glowing with happiness. Check out the show through July 24, 2015.

Great show of really internety type of photo-shoppy mashable image making by Olaf Breuning. The imagery is slightly tweaked things you’ve seen before, but the way they are put together with minimal artifice is really interesting—nice timeless quality to the work. Also a very interesting spherical format that the images are contained in. They rest against flimsy wooden frames that feels fleeting like something you’d see on the internet. This guy gets it. Check it out through July 31, 2015.

Miami based artist Tatiana Suarez has a charming style which is most distinctive - the stylized eyes that draw the viewer into a beautiful and surreal world. Suarez takes full advantage of the paints ability to create creamy, ethereal images on both the canvas and the wall. Rich with symbols that stem from her Brazilians and El Salvadorian heritage, subjects appear as if they are underwater, frozen in lovely stillness. The doe-eyes figures look childlike, but also exude sexual overtones, ornamented with plants, insects and other unsettling accompaniments. Beauty is presented concurrently with exotic - even creepy - creatures to create enchanted narratives.
