Belgian sculptor who brings a dark Taxidermied feeling to the installation. Set up with very low lighting and a textural darkness and subtle wetness to the sculptures, as if they have just been killed and skinned, wrapped and bound. I’m feeling an intensity of the mortal coil being spun off revealing dust. Very powerful show through 4.2.16. Check it out.
British Invasion—British Grafitti Artist Nick Walker has a one person show at the Quin Hotel from 6—9 PM tonight. New artworks created for the show! Should be a good party. Check it out!
Internet Favorites—Tonight 2 shows by Internet favorites Stephen Wilkes (Day and Night Photos) and Matteo Pugliese (Sculptures jumping though walls) shows open tonight. Get your popular art on! Also a lot of great photography shows opening tonight as well, should be a great night!
Warming Up—Nice shows for this Thursday night. A couple of classic image makers on view. Consantin Brancusi, the mentor for Isamu Noguchi, has works on view at Paul Kasmin gallery and Danziger has Inge Morath and artist Saul Steinberg’s cool collaborations of bag masks that are fun and creative. Definitely worth checking out. Always for a warm festive spirit head over to the Mike Weiss gallery and check out new work by Michael Zelehoski.
Painting and Sculpture on tap—Jacob Lewis Gallery has an exhibition of new sculptures and works on paper by Rina Banerjee. The sculptures are a wild combination of materials speaking about ones’ cultural identity in an urban context. Check it out this Thursday night. Also Bill Jensen has a show of triptychs. His painting style is more of an uncovering process, whereby he teases out the image through repetitive painting and scraping until the final image is realized. Check it out.
The dull ache of winter—The only cure is more performance art! Casey Kaplan Gallery is opening up a new space on 27th Street (This could be the New Chelsea as Galleries move to more affordable locations in the flower district near the Ace Hotel) featuring sound works and live performance that could be multi-sensorial and intense. New is Good. Additional shows in Chelsea feature photography and crazy bubble wrap process art at Anna Zorina Gallery. Stay warm and check it out!

A nice selection of sculptures from the Noguchi Foundation in Queens as well as some mass produced items such as tables an lamps that show the breath and width of work created during his career. Interesting piece entitled pregnant bird which is a lift of Constantin Brâncuși bird in space. He studied under Brancusi so it makes sense. These are two of my favorite sculptors of all time.
