Cool group show highlighting one of my favorite artists of the moment, the flat, yet 3D wooden artwork of Michael Zelehoski. THe work is so flat, and so impossible and so tactile. Check it out through March 26, 2016. Also check out Liao Yibai, massive bicycle chain in the back center gallery.
Assortment Pack — Everything goes this Thursday night. Realistic photography at the De Buck Gallery, Zines and exquisite corpse at David Zwirner with the always interesting Raymond Pettibon (of Black Flag logo fame) as well as a salute to Black History month with a founder of Kamoinge (early group of African American photographers, setting a positive message). Check it out!

Berry Campbell Gallery
Great show with a huge turnout. Nice wide variety of art making displayed here. Everything feels super modern and in the moment, collage, squeched paintings, sculpture, and super thick paintings. Great show check it out through February 16, 2016

Uneven show with a very cool projection with found items at the back of the gallery. The hands that were painted were amazing. Check it out before it closes December 19th.

Be Strong Boquan
Marke was present at the opening. He’s a very striking individual, 6′6″ African american guy, reed thin. No wonder that his canvasses are so big, it’s because he is too. I can just image him painting the tops of one of those massive pieces. The show is super cool. He book ends the show with 2 videos. Thoughtful videos. THe first one is a 3 projector piece that runs almost the length of the gallery and shows roller skating wheels “Kryptonic” wheels rolling in and bouncing out of frame. So cool when you realize that this gallery used to be a huge roller skating run. I whish they would put art in the middle and allow you to skate around it harkening it’s old glory days of the 1970′s.
The end video is a visual-less audio recording of a very racy and not political piece of a comedian riffing on Aids, Being African American and race in America. Funny that the show and 3 of the smaller pieces are named from the comedian’s riff piece.
Cool and complicated. Rockstar stuff.

Skarstedt Gallery in Chelsea has a varigated fountain of sculptures on display. Sculpture is always my favorite as it always illicits such a visceral response. Check it out through 12-19-15.
The Wrapture is Here—It’s not the end of the world and it’s not yet time for Christmas promotions, but here we have the Wrapture at Walter Wickiser Gallery. Nice work by Mark Travers opening up Thursday night. Check it out.
Warming Up—Nice shows for this Thursday night. A couple of classic image makers on view. Consantin Brancusi, the mentor for Isamu Noguchi, has works on view at Paul Kasmin gallery and Danziger has Inge Morath and artist Saul Steinberg’s cool collaborations of bag masks that are fun and creative. Definitely worth checking out. Always for a warm festive spirit head over to the Mike Weiss gallery and check out new work by Michael Zelehoski.
