Mike was kind enough to invite me to his opening last night and to chat with me a bit about his new work. Each photograph is a portrait of South Sudanese who managed to not only escape there war torn country but flourish here in America. Amazing 7 panel charcoal drawing of the capital building in DC along with a tilted plinth like, all Black, american flag shooting out of the ground. Intense and spooky visuals that are so familiar yet so foreign at the same time. The serious mood lighting adds to the drama. Check it out.

Pictured above, art collector Monica Welsh and Martin Wickstrom. Beautiful, and very pop-arty constructions that feel super modern and current. Many with plastic buckets in them. Martin says that when he went to Vietnam there were plastic buckets everywhere. People in Vietnam use them to wash there hands, collect rain water, etc. The Vietnam time period was a seminal moment in Martin’s life. Check it out.
