A Pause before the Frieze—Alex Kanevsky has some interesting work at J. Cacciola Gallery; rich paintings with trouble beneath the surface. Gehard Demetz; He of the iconic wooden sculptures of children that speak to deeper darker themes is having a new show at Jack Shainman on 20th. Really cool work. (1,3)

Heavy Hitters—Robert Longo is having 2 big shows across 2 galleries featuring charcoal reconstructions of famous abstract expressionist’ work from Jackson Pollack to Robert Motherwell, all showing at Metro Pictures Gallery. A separate show at Petzel gallery on 18th will feature a massive drawing of the capital building across 7 panels. It will be a buzzy New York night. Also Vik Muniz is showing new work at Sikkema Jenkins. He’s one of my favorites. Check it out.

Thursday Night Chelsea Gallery Party Map (4-3-14)
New Gallery in Town—Jonathan LeVine Gallery is opening a new gallery at the end of 23rd street (x11th). He had 2 pop-up shows (How & Nosm and WK) in this space before, which were wildly successful. Artists Anonymous from Berlin and London uses visuals that are a negative/positive take on Alice in Wonderland with video projections and a completely immersive environment resembling a life-sized pop-up book.
