Massive sculpture that would fit in nicely in your backyard. Represented all over Storm King Sculpture park, it’s nice to see a fresh piece of work by the artist in person in a chelsea gallery. Work feels a little fragile and lacking the strength of a normal di Suvero piece. Check it out.

Little Nip in the Air-A couple of nice openings in Chelsea tonight. Wear a jacket. Freight + Volume has Ezra Johnson who creates and develops an ever changing cast of forms. In the entrance are sponge like clay creations that are shelved by the hundreds. Really dramatic exhibition. Check it out.

Fantastic show! We been fans of Conor’s work for years and like proud parents we went to his reception last night. The work is stunningly beautiful. The show is hung from wires and lit dramatically with spot lights. The reception was more like a art event. Steve really knows how to throw a party.
Street Art—And lots of it! Happening Thursday night on the West and East sides. RaiseArt has a show with a prolific stable of street artists working their magic, including Adam Dare and one of my favorites, Whisbe. Lazarides has brought Conor Harrington to the LES for a one month show featuring films, walls (Rivington and Suffolk) and a new suite of realistic paintings. That show opens on Saturday September 27th.

All the Galleries are Open—A lot of great openings last week and very few this week. Plenty of great art to see. Stand-out show is Roxy Paine at Marianne Boesky Gallery. Made entirely out of wood, the show features a forced-perspective room made entirely out of wood that depicts an airport security station. Mind bending. Check it out.
Wayne White, Invisible Ruler

Nina of the Joshua Liner gallery was kind enough to invite me to a preview of Wayne White’s Invisible Ruler show yesterday. The show includes Wayne’s signature word paintings, works on paper done during his resedency at the Rauschenberg Foundation and a 15-foot kinetic sculpture.
We here at West of Dirty are huge fans and in fact we made the 6+ hour round trip journey to York, PA to see his show “Foe” last April. Three of the Civil War sculpture heads from “Foe” can be seen in Joshua Liner. Last nights reception was a big hit with the artist on hand to meet.
