Michael DeFeo September 4 - 20th
The Flower Guy had a great reception for his show “A Pocket Full of Posies” last night at the Rush Arts Gallery. This is the first exhibition focusing on Michael’s flower paintings. The paintings depict flowers both blooming and wilting simultaneously. It was fun to finally face to his iconic street flower.
Brian Calvin September 4 - October 4
This is Brian’s forth solo show at Anton Kern Gallery. In this latest show the Los Angeles-based artist presents paintings of closely cropped faces and or just mouths. Isolating and focusing on the lips as a way to alter the context of the face.

Wow, I’m a little star struck here. I actually ran into Nick Cave at the 20th st gallery. I stopped by to see Nicks two shows “Made for Whites by Whites”, depicting racially charged pieces made from black memorabilia and “Rescue” which showcases pieces made from antique ceramic dogs.
Piano stool stands out for me since the stool in this piece comes from the Maudslay Estate in Newburyport, MA where we are from.

Art’s BAAACK— Chinese muralist DALeast has a solo show at Jonathan Levine which should be packed. Flower graffiti and sticker slapper, Michael De Feo (The Flower Guy) is having a show at Rush Arts on the 3rd floor. Roxy Paine is showing at Marianne Boesky with a room sized work called Checkpoint. Fabricated from wood, this airport security checkpoint should be amazing to see in person. Check it out!

Great new shows and buildings are open to preview great art. There is a new building for Anselm Kiefer that is sited on campus. 3 amazing pieces that speak to the healing process of Germany sponsored by the Hall Art Foundation. Also worth checking out is the Octogon Room which was inspired by true life events. Lots of Dioramas onsite as well as Live music and outdoor events (we just missed a live BECK show). Put this on your map. Also a 25 year sited show by Sol LeWitt. Amazing. Check it out.

Great new show of work that is very site specific to Storm King. The copper sculptures are so malleable that you want to play with them. This is a great place to spend a picnic weekend experiencing sculpture, art and the outdoors. Summer is amazing in upstate NY! Check it out!
