ROA
Metazoa
Jonathan Levine Gallery
Great show by ROA at Jonathan Levine Gallery. Using found wooden objects, some with hinges, some with mirrors, the artist creates very intimate and scaled objects of animals and bones in his trademarked style. Famous for his massive murals worldwide, these are intimate pieces that are fun to view in person. Check out the show through May 2, 2015
Keith Haring
Heaven and Hell
Skarstedt Gallery
Always good to see work by Keith Haring. He was very prolific and when you see a show like this, it’s amazing to see the vibrance of the fluorescent colors in person. Massive canvasess worth checking out through April 18, 2015
Thomas Saraceno
Hybrid Solitary…Semi-social Quintet…On cosmic Webs…
Tanya Bonakdar Gallery
Cool show that harnesses the building and construction power of the Arachnid to create amazing environments. Taking 6 to 8 months to build, these are inspiring pieces of natural phenomena, tweaked and controlled by the artist. Thomas uses Arachnology as a tool for the investigation of alternative constructions in these pieces. Check it out through May 2, 2015
WADE GUYTON & STEPHEN PRINA at Petzel gallery. Wade Guyton uses the idiosyncrasies of plotters to create repetitive forms. He’s always looking for the glitch that creates a unique piece of art. Check it out through May 2, 2015
WILLEM DE ROOIJ Rye Wonk, Petzel Gallery. Very Mundane visuals and giant flower arrangements. The walls are covered with handwoven, abstract tapestries that barely draw the eye. Painstaking work that creates a kind of Field Painting effect. Check it out through May 2, 2015
Great Photo show this Thursday Night—Philip-Lorca diCorcia has a
large show opening Thursday night at David Zwirner Gallery on 19th street. The show is very much a synthesis of our times and should make for interesting conversations about good and evil and right and wrong. Check it out.
An art dealer’s perspective on the NY art scene and artists as there own keepers.
Very intriguing night, a night for the curious indeed!—Cool re-appropriated
giant prints from the 1970’s Time Life volume “Library of Photography” by Matt Lipps at Danziger Gallery is visually stunning and oddly compelling. I want one! Also Paul Kasmin has a crazy retro installation that will probably be the party of the night. Tomas Sarceno is showcasing the architecture of the insect.
Bug out and check it out!
Down and Dirty Zines!—Fantastic artist Noah Lyon will be present zines, artist books and buttons all available for purchase at a reasonable and collectible price. This is a fun show with work that shouldn’t be missed. Check it out.
